Man, there are some unfeeling bastards out there! I am really shocked at what I'm hearing from some of you conservatives out there. MY money, MY retirement, and not giving two cents for those without it. With your mentality, you all could've come out winners in the Enron scandal.
The United States is a land full of opportunity, but some people miss the boat. Sometimes it's their own fault and their own decisions. Other times, it's no one's fault. The government, and its citizens, has a RESPONSIBILITY to protect those people. Jeez! Do you all just kick homeless people when you see them? Do you care how the other half live at all? My taxes are high as a middle-class citizen; yet I realize that my tax dollars will be used to fund programs that will benefit ALL people, and I fully expect social programs to be in place, b/c you never know when it will be YOU that fall on hard times. Think of it has a donation (or a investment in terms of education) to the need
