It's easy to explain. What you're talking about is probability. The odds of something happening. This has nothing to do with sports or tournaments where your job is to beat the other team or person. What sport or tournament do you know of where the winner is the one that has to win an odds game? I beat you, I win. My team beats yours, we win. if I get all six lotto numbers, I win. If nobody does, they keep playing until somebody does. Nothing special here.
