Experienced woodworker wanted:
I make sculptural furniture - one of a kind, one at a time, by commission. The designs are relatively contemporary, but the building techniques are very traditional. Most pieces are shaped and surfaced by hand using edge tools - scrapers, planes, chisels, carving tools, etc. - rather than sandpaper. Joinery is all traditional, as well - dovetails, mortises and tenons (often haunched/angled/miter shouldered, and other crazy shapes), etc...
I'm looking for someone highly skilled - able to work with me and/or alone to create often complex pieces. Must have the skills necessary to produce extremely high end work: large machinery, hand tool skills, knowledge of wood and its properties, sensitivity to grain structure and surface, sharpening, etc. - and a dedication to learning more. Please have your own hand tools - at least basic tools, chisels, a few planes, scrapers, etc., and know how to keep them sharp.
